So I joined a read-along for the book Obsidian. At first, I was pretty excited to join this read-along because I have never joined one and it was the first experience for me. But after being in this read-along for two weeks I don’t think I will ever be ready to do another one. This read-along is of course over the internet and not a book club kind of meeting (which may make a difference I don’t know).
First, not many people who join the read-along join the conversations we have. I have noticed that there are about five people in this read-along and only about three of us contribute. This may not irk other people but it does me because I would like to get everyone’s opinion throughout the book. If only three-fifths are contributing (literally) then you only get three-fifths of the opinion instead of everyone’s viewpoint.
Second, I have no ability to wait on reading a book a certain number of chapters at a time. (Which is why I think a book club may be a better choice.) And because of this fact, I have to remember what happened in that set number of chapters when I join the conversation every week. This can make it hard for me to keep up with the conversation.
Third, it’s just not for me.
Now all of this is just my opinion after two weeks so by the time it ends this could have changed but currently this is why I don’t like read-alongs.
