I picked this book up because I loved the cover (yes I did the faux pas) and then I read the synopsis:
They killed my mother.
They took our magic.
They tried to bury us.
Now we rise.
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, Maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.
This synopsis dragged me in and sounds amazing! I just had to read it after that! This book is absolutely amazing. I loved the story and all that happened in this book. It was beautifully written. Zélie was a character that evolved over time instead of staying the same. As the challenges happened throughout the book she changed. The prince did as well but the other characters seemed stagnant to me. Does that mean they are going to slowly disappear from the main story or does that mean they will show some differences in the next book?
I really want to read the next book to form a full opinion of the world this story is building. What characters will change next? Have you read this book?
Five out of five stars.
I picked up the ARC for this book at my job and wasn’t totally interested in it but decided to give it a try. I cannot say this enough; it was the best decision I made! This book is a total crime novel that draws you in. One of the main characters is lesbian and the other is a used to be ballerina. They have to figure out who killed their best friend five years ago to stop everyone from blaming them.
What they don’t anticipate is the help along the way. They have to relive the memories and go through the book they once thought was their whold world to get the results of who killed their best friend. As obsession turns to murder and murder turns into an unsolved mystery the town turns on those they think did it. Five out of five stars for sure!

Oh wow, you guys. This book was amazing! I am sitting on my porch smoking a cigarette right now to take this book in! It was shockingly good. I didn’t know how much I would like it. I was unsure when I started it but was curious about the raving reviews I saw on it. Needless to say, I can see why the reviews rave about this book!
This book goes back and forth between two queens who battle different fights throughout the story. It gives you the whole backstory and the current in one book. They both have good hearts and have to make hard choices that result in the story it becomes. They find the faults in love while finding the great things in it. There is a love for family and a love for country in this book. The themes throughout are amazing and I totally recommend this book!
I cannot wait to meet this author in September!
Five out of five stars!
For the month of July, I took a couple of trips which interrupted my need to read some books. But I still was able to read a good many books!
- Gunslinger Girl
- Ash Princess
- Heart of Mist
- Marked by the Wolf
- Dear Author
I found this book at the bookstore and wanted to read it. It’s about a princess who’s land gets taken over when she is a young child. Throughout the story, she is treated as a glorified prisoner. She makes one friend who in the end ends up being someone else. This story was very interesting from beginning to end.
She is forced to kill her own father when they capture him and there is a theme of magic throughout. The people are mining for these jewels with the ability of certain elements. With each turn of events, Theodosia changes as a character. I kind of like her but kind of don’t. I really have yet to decide what I think of her but I have two more books to decide (according to Goodreads).
I hadn’t seen this book on Instagram or any of the blogs I follow which I find interesting because this book is written very well and you can tell it’s going to be a part of a series. I cannot wait for the second book to continue this story.
Five out of five stars! 🙂
This book gets FIVE stars! When I first saw it on bookstagram I was skeptical but I decided to read the synopsis and decided to give it a try. It is a book that is set like a western while also trying to be set in the future. The main character comes from a rough house and sets off to find a future without that house. By the time the book is over she is far from that life and finding new things out about the world that she was sheltered from. She learns new things about her deceased mother and learns to use her talents for what is necessary.
It is three am EST and I am writing this blog post with tears in my eyes. I need a warning label put on books that are going to rip your heart open and stomp on it at the end. Thank whatever god I can think of that I started this series when the next book is already out because I could not do the waiting game on this!
So basically in this book the children start dying off suddenly and the ones that survive have supernatural abilities. I think there were five different groups? And the survivors go through some tough crap. Well, adventures happen and suddenly we have this HEARTBREAKING ENDING! Like I need to understand! I need the second book stat!
This book gets a five out of five all the way!
I did this color project for The Astonishing Color of after but also for pride month. Everyone knows the colorful flag as what it is Pride. But other than showing support in the form of colorful emblems and emoji’s I haven’t seen any projects that use colors to express feelings and memories. They haven’t taken the step beyond.
With this project, I took it a step further and took an idea from a book and tried to make the flag a real possibility. Something I hope next year to see more people doing or even the next couple of months. You don’t need an actual month to support it. You can do it when no one is looking and when no one expects it. I find myself surrounded by straights and LGBTQ people since I am part of the LGBTQ family.
These three colors were chosen by me because they are my favorite colors out of all the ones I could have chosen. That and I wanted to see if I could pick things that aren’t on the Pride flag but is in our everyday lives. Something we can see and relate to in different ways and in different memories. This was my project to share with you and I hope you enjoyed it.
I would recommend following my Instagram for more colors and a giveaway coming soon!

When I think of the color orange I think of my aunt’s wedding where I wore a bright orange dress that went with my tan and just radiated off of me. I think of happiness and summer. I think of fall and football. I think of so many things with this color. It really is hard to pin down the feeling I get with this color besides reminiscent.
I see it and think of all the wonderful times I have had with it so joy is part of this color in my life but I just mostly remember when I see it. Pinning down a feeling beyond that is hard.
What do you see when you see the color orange?
Ah, the color (or if you truly know it as a shade) black. This color is usually associated with deep thoughts and funerals. In my case, this color means nighttime and peaceful thoughts.
The color black for me always has a tinge of blue or grey when I think of it. I automatically think of the night sky. Nighttime is usually when I am the most awake and find the world at peace. Nighttime is usually when I have the best thoughts of things and clear my head. It is usually when friends come over to go for a drive with music low just to talk about anything and nothing. This is when the best bonds are made in my opinion.
Think of a color you associate with a certain way and tell me in the comments what else it could mean. 🙂
